Raw, Reclaimed & Rolling: Papermaking meets Street Art with Drew Matott

Ditch the pristine art studio—on the 29th of August we are taking papermaking to the pavement! Join Master Papermaker Drew Matott for a high-energy, hands-on workshop where industrial trash becomes tactile art.
We’re turning raw jute coffee sacks, banana peels, junk mail, and salvaged cotton rags into lush pulp using a custom, pedal-powered Hollander beater. You’ll learn to pull crisp A4 & A5 sheets, then break the rules with radical contemporary techniques: pulp painting, stencil spraying, and layered, textured works that demand to be touched.
The workshop starts at 12.00 and lasts until 16.00, so if you can’t make it for the start, there’s plenty of time to catch up! The Paper gets pressed on site; dry sheets will be ready for pickup at TYPA the following day.
Dress code: Wear clothes you aren’t afraid to get wet, dirty, and covered in pulp.
Participation is FREE! All you need is a good mood and a creative spirit!
The Lead Artist
Drew Matott is an internationally acclaimed Master Papermaker who uses raw cellulose as a medium for global activism and street-level community engagement. Holding an MFA in Book & Paper Arts (Columbia College Chicago) and a BFA in Printmaking (Buffalo State), Drew splits his time co-directing the global Peace Paper Project and running the St. Pauli Paper Studio in Hamburg, Germany.
