Estonian printmaker Lembe Ruben describes her works on this exhibition: “Estonian composer Arvo Pärt revealed me in my dream a secret to a perfect creation. In music, the perfect piece is created by dismissing the notes. The whole is created by the pauses between the rhythm, but also by the dismissed layers and spaced structures – only the hints remain. Like in a worn-out lace curtain, we can feel the continuity of the pattern, although we don’t see the missing pieces. We perceive something that does not exist. The missing notes in our heads recover the feeling of the structure. Creation is a meeting of the resonating levels – creating mind and a life event that releases the inspiration. Different angles of view create new patterns with a different density. The whole is created by emptyness.”
