We invite you to TYPA to take part of a two day intaglio on wood printmaking course, which takes place on 15.-16.08!
The course will give a proper introduction into doing intaglio on wood. No prior experience is needed. By the end of the course each participant will have made a series of prints.
Intaglio on wood is a printing technique where the image is cut into a wooden block and the ink stays in the cut crevices, creating darker lines. When printed, the natural pattern of the wood will also be visible beside the cut lines. This gives the prints a special characteristic background.
Lembe Ruben (1974) graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a degree in printmaking and holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts. She has undertaken further studies in psychology and art therapy at Tallinn University. Ruben has held 17 solo exhibitions and taken part in various group exhibitions both in Estonia and abroad. In 2011, she was awarded the Wiiralt Young Artist Prize. In addition to her exhibition activities, Ruben has taught printmaking, drawing and composition at the Estonian Academy of Arts, the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy and elsewhere. Her exploration of art therapy and the connections between psychology and art has given rise to her own method of art-making and teaching – the ‘method of spontaneity’ – through which everyone can connect with their natural creativity and, using the body’s wisdom, ‘translate’ the essence of life into visual language. Ruben has also been active in the Estonian printmaking scene as the head of the Estonian Printmakers’ Association, a gallery owner and a curator.
