TYPA is the only memory institution specialising in the printing arts in the Baltic States and Finland. Our collections include a wide variety of printing, binding and paper-making machines and equipment, and the largest collection of type (lead, wooden type and embossing) in the region. In addition to the larger printing equipment, we also collect type catalogues and other literature and artefacts related to printing and letterpress. Our collections are accessible for the researchers as well as for interns - if you are interested, contact our collections manager danila@typa.ee.

The TYPA collections are organised according to our Collection Principles (In Estonian). Objects officially accepted into the museum collection are also visible in the museum information system MuIS. The documentation of the collections is still in progress, and many, many items are still awaiting formal acceptance into the museum collection.
Updating the collections on the website is an ongoing process. Below is a selection of some of the most visually beautiful machines for you to enjoy.

It’s not easy to maintain old printing presses – they need warmth and light, a caring hand and plenty of machine oil. We offer individuals and businesses the opportunity to support our preservation mission of print history by adopting an item of our collection. Through this adoption, you become a member of TYPA- can come to visit our museum for free at any moment, and take part in our activities at a reduced rate.
