On the 18th of February, we invite you to the Ukrainian art evening “Voices of Canvas” – an evening of arts dialogue, accompanied by non-linear storytelling about the artists’ lives and a combination of music and painting in live performance.
Pictures, perhaps, speak both polyphonically and in different timbres, deliberately loudly or in a timid, barely distinguishable whisper. And if so, we will try to record individual voice parts of paintings and their authors — Ivan Marchuk, Mariia Prymachenko, Mariia Bashkyrtseva and Anatoliy Kryvolap. These four artists have never met in person, yet will share their life stories this evening.
The pictures of Ukrainian artists of the 19th and 20th centuries will find their voices intertwined with visual arts and music. The evening is about meanings which are somewhat inexpressible merely by words: hope, aspiration, distress, love, and home, which is always with you.
Join us for an evening of arts dialogue, accompanied by non-linear storytelling about the artists’ lives and a combination of music and painting in live performance. A small material piece of the dialogue — postcards with Ukrainian paintings and song lines — can be purchased for a donation.
Entrance: free. We encourage donations.
Start: February 18, 19:00
The event is a part of the Tartu 2024 side programme. Foreign visitors are very welcome.
