Paul Pretzer is a young painter from Germany who, like many previous artists of Tartu’s residence, has his roots from Estonia. Having been born in Paide – the „Heart of Estonia“ – Paul remembers this place only vaguely because he left at the age of six.
Having lived in various countries around the globe, Paul highly values different cultures and perceives them as a source of inspiration. Without doubt, visiting Estonia will be meaningful on many grounds.
Although Paul concentrates mainly on painting, he also has an academic background of print-making. During his studies at the Academy of Dresden, he had the pleasure to work with the same etching press that was used by Otto Dix. The residency is a great opportunity for Paul to focus on etchings for a whole month. During the residency, he will create a group of prints which will be presented together with his earlier works within an exhibition at the Balcony Gallery.
