Pamela Breda was born in 1982, in Vittorio Veneto (Italy). She currently lives and Works in Venice. In 2012 she received her MA in Visual Arts from IUAV University, Italy. Her work has been exhibited in international venues in Venice, London, Santander, Salzburg, Trondheim, and in institutions such as Karlsruhe Kunsthalle, Fondation Francois Schneider, La Casa Encendida, Fondation Botin, Fondation Bevilacqua La Masa and Venice Architecture Biennal, Italian Pavillion.
Pamela’s main area of research is focused on cultural visual tropes and traditions, on the contingency of the artistic process and on its multiple outcomes. She analyzes western imaginaries connected with culturally and socially-engaged contexts of production and reception. Starting from the analysis on the relationship between powers and knowledge and between artwork and the narrative fiction implied in it, she researches the visual-cognitive values ascribed to the contemporary image exploited as a narration.

Artist Statement

My residency project in Tartu aims to develop a research realized during the resiency at ViaIndustriae (Perugia, IT) in November 2015. During the first stage of the project I will realize a sonoric map of the plants hosted in the Tartu Botanical Gardens Greenhouse. Through the use of sensors and contact mikes, I will record and catalogue the sounds produced by the plants hosted inside the greenhouse. During a second phase of the project, the sounds thus collected will be edited during an electronic software, in order to form a unique trace, a sort of concert actually produced by the plants hosted in the greenhouse. During the last phase, the single audio traces will be transposed into visual signal, corresponding to different color grades. Each of these visual map will be printed and catalogued. The outcome of the research will be the realization of a site-specific sound installation and the display of a series of photographic prints.

Scripts For Movies

 in progress
mixed media
variable durations
I work on series of american home movies realized between the 1930s and 1980s from the Prelinger collection. These ephemeral films are anonymous, often without no indication about provenance or subject. For every movie. I create a script that complete it as such.
The Fake Polaroid Book

The Fake Polaroid Book

2010
Book, 350 pp.
This project stems from a desire to realize a photographic work using polaroid, unrealized due to the expensive cost of polaroid film. I decided to create a fake version of the collection I wanted to make, using a software in order to transform reflex-produced digital images into fake polaroids. I then collected the photographs in this book which is a fake version of the official Polaroid Book and at the same time a true book of fake polaroids.
