Irena Lawruszko participated in the TYPA art residency in January 2021. Irena was born in 1992 in Ternopil, Ukraine. In 2012, she began her studies at the Department of Graphics at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, chairing the department from 2013 to 2017. She received a bachelor’s degree in art education specializing in painting. In 2017, he entered a master’s degree at the Warsaw Academy of Arts. Irena has had several solo exhibitions in Lublin and Kopyczyńces, Ukraine. She has participated in international collective exhibitions in Ireland, Japan, Romania, Belarus, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Sicily, Sweden, Bulgaria and Ukraine. She has also taken part in outdoor events, cultural festivals and workshops.
Irena came to Tartu to finish her series of intaglio printing works. During her stay here she completed four works measuring 60 × 80 cm. Golden works have been done in intaglio (etching and aquatint). In Tartu, she established contacts with many local (print) artists. During her art residency at TYPA, Irena presented a series of works inspired by old and dilapidated architecture. The main goal of the exhibition was to show how much emotion these ruins carry and to express emotions through old buildings. Seemingly closed architectural forms acquire character and carry meaning to us from the past when they are captured in a certain reality. They become silent witnesses of the passing of time and forgotten signs of the story of time.
Irena’s exhibition “Forgotten Architecture” was presented in the TYPA gallery in February 2021.
