Haruka Yamada. Sun of the CityHaruka Yamada: Sun of the City. The official opening of a painted sundial in Tartu

Let’s raise a glass to celebrate the work of art of a Japanese artist, Haruka Yamada, who has painted a monumental sundial in Tartu.
On the 2nd of August at 7 pm
Address: Kivi 40a, in front of the facade

The Japanese visual artist, Haruka Yamada has a mission: to paint one sundial every year. By the 2nd of August, Haruka will have finished her fourth sundial, this time in Tartu, at Ülejõe.

The project, entitled Sun of the City, begun in 2017. It’s with exquisite precision that Haruka chooses the right wall for the painting: it’s not only the cardinal points that have to be precise but also there has to be an urban element that casts an ideal shadow. The shadow will play the role of the clock’s gnomon. The sundial will show time according to the winter and summer time.
