TYPA ResidencyArtist in residence

Creative Center Carnation hosted their first artists in residence from 3rd – 6th May. Ernest Truely (USA/Estonia) and Justin Tyler Tate (Canada/USA/Estonia) represent Error Collective, an art collective based in Culture Factory Polymer in Tallinn. During their residency they worked in the Printing Museum to create ‘art tags’ and other printed materials inspired by Soviet-issue furniture labels. These will be used to brand Error Collective’s creations, such as ‘hybrid furniture’ made by fusing multiple broken, unused pieces together to give them a new life. The products of the residency will be used as part of an art piece called ‘Error Master Suite’ taking place in Tallinn from 21st – 25th May. There is also the possibility of a future exhibition of hybrid furniture in Tartu later in 2012.

Check out the results of the residency here.

The printed labels will be put to further use to ‘inventory’ collective property in Culture Factory Polymer. Polymer and Creative Center Carnation closely cooperate in AiR projects. Error Collective’s residency was partly financed by the city of Tartu.
