TYPA ResidencyArtist in residence

Aleksandr is an artist and printmaker based in the Moscow region. He is a Monoprint, lithography and experimental relief printing king, with a background in painting and street art. He is also the head of Printnonstop studio in Moscow. He spent a short, but fruitful period in TYPA during his art residency.

Aleksandr described his works as follows:

The basic idea in pictures I made in Typa is to combine the text and image — but not just put them together somewhere. To make an image within the text. To make text working as a pattern to create an image. I made series of small prints. Then go further — to destroy prints and combine new art from it using collage technique.

I really love how plain text works like different shades of grey, black, and white and I like to work with it using as different scales and gradation. I like when I make white and other colors paper work in the image too — to create foregrounds, backgrounds, illusion of relief, and silhouettes.
