On February 12th at 18.00 we invite you to the opening of Peeter Allik’s exhibition „Vincenti tool” (Vincent’s chair).

You could say that the black-and-white linocut reproduction of a a chair from a world-famous painter’s painting can mark Peeter Allik’s short, but bright stardom in Estonia’s art-haven. During his creatively fruitful leap, the he achieved masterful technical skills in cutting different lineweights into his chosen material.

In the earlier years of his work you can see his interest toward old book illustrations. He adjusted the thin linework characteristic of small engravings onto soft materials, which resulted in large-scale works with robust lines, where you can find familiar corsetted ladies and armored men that are also found on old engravings. And all those characters are engaging in their own absurd and secretive activities. Master of absurdity, Peeter Allik, gives them a voice that echoes even today, in our contemporary life, society and media.

Even though Allik isn’t telling these stories to us in his own characteristic ways anymore, then many of his works still create the feeling as if he had seen further from his own present, as many works also speak accurately to today’s stories.

Peeter Allik (1966-2019) studied painting in Tartu University and graphic art in Estonian Academy of Art. He was one of the founding members of the Kursi art collective (Kursi Koolkond). He has had many exhibitions in many Estonian galleries and as well as internationally. Allik’s works have been displayed on hundreds of group exhibitions. You can find his works in the collections of Tartu Art Museum, Estonian Art Museum KUMU, and Viinistu Art Museum, as well as many private collections all over the world. His work has been rewarded with many awards.

TYPA gallery is located at Kastani 48f, and is open from Wed-Sun, 12.00-18.00.
The exhibition is open from 12.02-29.03.2026.
