Opening Peformance-Installation: 27.09, at 18.00
Location: Rõdugalerii, Kastani 42
Free entry

On September 27th at 18.00 we invite you to Rõdugalerii, to take part of a performance-installation “Burn After Reading” opening by TYPA’s residency artist Johanna Häiväoja. After the performance, the sculpture will be up for viewing for another week, until October 4th.

Johanna gives us an overview of the exhibition as follows:

Paper is a very usual matter. We tear it, throw it away, are so accustomed having tons of it around that we do not respect it nor see it’s inherent beauty.

White paper contains all the stories that are not yet written, the maps of countries to visit, love letters imagined and never sent. It offers a complete and scary freedom to the imagination and a permanent, immutable support for the histories of mankind.

Again, books and libraries are being burned or otherwise destroyed in too many places.

So, as a tribute to paper I want to construct a forest of pages, transforming slowly to wings and taking off. This installation will be built slowly during the opening of the exhibition, in the presence of the public.

About the artist
Statement from Aurélie Giraud, director of Musée Michel Ciry

“Johanna Häiväoja is a contemporary Finnish sculptor who is based in southern Finland and Normandy, France. She has graduated from ENSBA Paris, but has also been studying physics and mathematics, which nurtures a very singular approach in her creations.

Her work explores relations between matter, light, space and perception with sculptures, installations and integration of digital technologies. While associating traditional know-how and innovation, she develops a sensitive reflection about the dialogue between the human being, its environment and the mutations of our current world.

Through her work, Johanna Häiväoja is recognized for combining exigency, poetic dimension and setting up new forms of expression.

Rõdugalerii is located at Aparaaditehas courtyard, through door nr 7 on the second floor. It is open Wed-Sun, 12.00-18.00.
