Exhibition “More than one way to skin a cat”
Emma Jane Pendelton, TYPA’s artist in residence, opened her exhibition titled “More than one way to skin a cat” on the 19th of June at TYPA’s paper kitchen.
The collection of work ‘More than one way to skin a cat’ evokes the importance of a broader connection between old folk tales, new urban legends, and beliefs that have persisted throughout time on a global scale. In tune with the folk art revival movement, ‘More than one way to skin a cat’ aims to highlight storytelling and the medium of print as a way to preserve cultural heritage through the use of TYPA’s equipment and historical tools.
Utilising TYPA’s Letterpress, paper-making, intaglio, and linoleum printing facilities, Emma Jane Pendleton presents a small body of work that displays her passion for history, folklore, and political art. Through hours of hand-type setting and copper etching, her characters come to life on paper.
“Folk stories have always been political, even the shortest, briefest of proverbs, because they come from the people and they follow and grow with us throughout time. Realizing folklore can be used as a tool for both good and bad, is more important now than ever.”
TYPA centre is open from Wed-Sun 12:00-18:00, the exhibition will stay open until the 20th of July.
The exhibition is free to visit!
