Paper could be easily made from recycled paper, plants and fabrics by yourself. \n\n\n\nCyanotype on glass with Tania Bakum<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\nSaturday, 14th February 13.00-15.00<\/strong> <\/strong>
TYPA\u2019s current residency artist Tania Bakum will intoduce a historical photography technique – cyanotype, which was used to make the very first photographycal illustrations in the 19th century. We will be using a light sensitive solution and some objects, negatives and drawings to make a blue print on glass. In her practice, Tania uses glass for cyanotypes instead of the regular paper. Applying cyanotype on glass is quite different from the traditional paper-based process, as it involves the use of gelatin. Yet the results are so striking that exploring this method is well worth the effort. The workshop encourages experimentation and embraces unpredictability as part of the process. In her practice, she combines photography, performance, and textiles. She experiments with materials, bringing together traditional and innovative techniques. Her work often incorporates processes of destruction and material transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her artistic practice, Tania explores themes of intergenerational trauma, feminism, social taboos, and addresses the war in Ukraine. \n\n\n\nPhotogravure workshop with Nelly Toussaint<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\nSaturday, 21st February 13.00-15.00<\/strong> <\/strong>
Photogravure is a photomechanical process used to reproduce images, involving transferring a photograph onto a metal (copper) or photopolymer plate through exposure and acid etching, in order to create a printing form. During this workshop, we will cover all the steps involved in creating a photogravure, from start to finish, including printing.<\/p>\n\n\n\nEach participant will work on their own plate and print their own base image. Your base image must be black and white, and can have shades of grey. It can be a photograph, a hand-drawn image, such as lines or a more complex drawing, or a computer-generated image or text. Participants are asked to create their own base image before the workshop, scan it, and send the file (.jpg) to TYPA (merilin@typa.ee).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This workshop is in English!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nNelly Toussaint is a French artist born in 1986 who lives and works in Finland since 2017. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Photography from Paris 8 University in 2010, she obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from La Villa Arson in 2014. She then spent two years studying printmaking at the Helsinki Fine Arts Academy, graduating with an MFA in 2025. Her work is present in numerous private and public collections such as Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Finland and the BNF in France. Her artworks have been exhibited in several countries, including: France, Belgium, Monaco, Germany, Finland, and Estonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nelly Toussaint questions the representation of women in Western art history and its use as a tool of domination, by re-drawing intaglio prints from art museums\u2019 collections, embroidering feminist slogans with her own hair and drawing self-portraits. Marbling is a creative yet simple technique. A tub is filled with a special thickened liquid so marbling inks that are dropped on it will stay afloat. Sticks and combs can be used to alter the inks and make patterns. When a paper is put on the surface of the liquid, the inks will adhere to it and voila!<\/p>\n\n\n\nWorkshop price is 25\/20\u20ac<\/strong>*
